Walpurgis Eve at Stockholm Skansen
The arrival of spring has been celebrated at Skansen since 1894. It is celebrated with bonfires, speeches and choir-song. Nearly every choir member from the entire country is therefore gathered on the 30th of April, better known as Valborgsaften or Walpurgis Eve.
This evening is also the threshold for the feast of Walpurgis, which is held on the 1st of May. Bonfires are lit, often on the top of a hill, and can be seen from far away. The same songs are performed all over the country. This evening marks the end of winter and the coming of spring, where there is no more sleet and snow.
